Dance Yuma Dance

Name(s):
Don Schafer & Barbara Minton

Style:Country Western

Don Schafer started dancing in 1980. He became interested in dance when he saw how much fun the dancers were having. One evening a guy came in to his singles club who had taught 25 years of dance for Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray. He worked with his instructor for about 6 years. Don is recognized around the RV park dance circuit as “Cowboy Don”. Don is a winter visitor, happily married to Mary for 7 years. His message to all…”learn to dance, chicks dig it!”

Barbara Minton, one of Don’s dance students, the only one with two left feet!! I had always wanted to learn to country-dance but raising 6 children afforded little opportunity. With considerable (enormous) help from Don and friends, I have learned to waltz, swing, east coast swing, west coast swing, stationary and cowboy cha cha, two step, progressive two step, ten step, triple step, and schottische. I still have two left feet, but now they are covered in a pair of cowboy boots. My goal is to become a better dancer because I too want to teach!
