Contestants Rules
1. Contestant must live in the Yuma area and be available for the elimination rounds on April 9th, 2008 at Historic Yuma Theatre. The finals are April 23, 2008.
Application Deadline: 3/18/08, 5pm. Prior year winner not eligible to compete (1st place only, 2nd and 3rd place are eligible).
2. Contestants must be ten years of age or older. We will accept solos, duets or trios only. There is no charge to enter contest.
3. Dance Yuma Dance is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is somebody that does not own a dance studio or dance with a professional dance company. If you are a member of an amateur dance company it must be disclosed on the application.
4. All routines must be original choreography. If a contestant moves on to the final round, a change in routine is strongly encouraged but not required. Though tumbling and gymnastic elements are acceptable, this is not a gymnastics or tumbling competition.
5. Associates of Freedom Communications of Southwestern Arizona, Inc. are ineligible to enter.
6. Routines must be a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 4 minutes.
8. Props are allowed on committee approval. Props are to be provided by dancer and must not present a safety hazard.
9. Performers must be able to provide a sound clip for performance purposes to YumaSun.com. CD format or email is preferred in a .wav or .mp3 format; files must be 5MB or less. The committee must approve live music.
10. Contestants must provide a high quality, recent photo in digital format as a jpeg only. Size should be between 1MB-5MB.
11. Only the best 40 entries, as determined by a committee of Sun associates, with completed packages will be accepted for the competition. A completed package will include a description of dance type, photo, short biographical information, completed application, audition videotape and sound file for performance purposes. If a contestant advances past the elimination round, the information will be published online for voting. Required format for digital files must be 5MB or less.
12. After each judged elimination round, semi-finalists will advance to online voting at www.contestsinyuma.com/danceyumadance for 1 week to determine finalists.
13. The top 14 acts from the group, as decided by the judges, will advance to on-line voting. The top 10 of 14 from the on-line voting will advance to the finals. Finalists will be notified by telephone. A wild card finalist will be added.
14. Contestants must complete the entry form in English. All types of music (instrumental / lyrics) are allowed, but profanity is not permitted. Contestants who use music with profane words will be disqualified.
15. Finalists will perform live April 23rd, 2008 before a live audience. Winners to be determined by half judge's vote and half popular vote the night of the finals. Decisions are final.
16. Cash Prizes: 1st Place Winner $500, 2nd Place- $300, 3rd Place- $200.
17. Applications may be emailed to awagner@yumasun.com, or hand delivered to The Sun/yumasun.com offices at 2055 S. Arizona Avenue, Yuma, AZ 85364 by 5 p.m. on March 18, 2008.
18. YumaSun.com reserves the right to reject any submission and to eliminate any contestant during the competition.
19. YumaSun.com reserves the right to amend these rules, or terminate, suspend or modify the contest (including replacing or substituting prizes), at its sole discretion, and the YumaSun.com shall have no responsibility for any damages arising there from.
By entering the contest, entrants agree to these official rules. This contest is subject to all applicable laws and regulations and is void where prohibited.
20. All entries will become the property of YumaSun.com. Applications and accompanying materials will not be returned. By entering, you (and your legal guardian on your behalf) assign to YumaSun.com and its affiliates the exclusive right to publish the material in print or other media, including online.
