Contestants:
1.
Contestant must live in the Yuma area at least 6 months out of the year,
and be available for the elimination rounds on Wed., Aug. 13 and 20th, 7 p.m. at Historic Yuma Theatre. The finals are Sept. 3rd, 2008.
2. Yuma Star is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this
contest, an amateur is somebody without a major-label recording contract
who makes less than half their annual income by performing.
3. Contestants should sing a new song for each performance. Last year's event winner and associates of Freedom Communications of Southwestern
Arizona, Inc. are ineligible to enter.
4. Contestants must be able to provide a sound clip, for audition purposes, to YumaSun.com.
CD format or email is preferred in a .wav or .mp3 format; files must
be 5MB or less. Cassette tape is allowed for audition purposes only.
5. Contestants must provide their own accompaniment music on CD, in .wav or .mp3 format (max size is 5MB) for the live performance with their completed packet.
Copies will not be available for return until after contest is completed. Cassette tapes are not allowed for performance music.
6. Contestants must provide a recent photo. Digital format as
a jpeg is preferred. High quality glossy print is acceptable. No faxes,
polaroids, or clippings from newspaper, magazine or high school yearbooks
will be accepted. Photos can be taken at The Sun's office per request. Contact Adrianne Wagner, Marketing Dept. at (928) 539-6930.
7. Only the best 40 contestants as determined by a committee
of Sun associates with completed packages will be accepted for the competition.
A completed package will include an audition sound clip, background music for performance, photo and completed entry form. If a contestant advances past the elimination round, the
package will be published online for voting. Preferred file type for
music is CD, .wav or .mp3; files must be 5MB or less. No cassette tapes will be accepted.
8. After each judged elimination round, semi-finalists will advance
to online voting at www.YumaSun.com for 1 week to determine finalists.
9. The top 10-12 finalists will be determined by online voting
results and will be notified by telephone. A wild card finalist will be added.
10. Contestants must complete the entry form in English but may
perform their number in any language. All types of singing/rapping style
are allowed, but profanity is not permitted. Contestants who use profane
words will be disqualified.
11. Costumes and dancing must be appropriate for a family show. Audience members will be all ages, including children. Please notify the committee of abrupt changes in act prior to competition. No surprises.
12. We reserve the right to stop a performance at any time.
13. Finalists will perform live Sept. 3rd before a live audience. Winners to be determined by live popular vote. Decision is final.
14. Applications may be emailed to Adrianne Wagner, awagner@yumasun.com, or hand delivered to The Sun/YumaSun.com offices at 2055 S. Arizona Ave., Yuma, AZ 85364 by 5pm on July 30, 2008. Applications submitted after 5pm will be void.
15. YumaSun.com reserves the right to reject any submission and to eliminate any contestant during the competition.
