Voting:


  1. Voters are allowed one vote per computer per hour.
  2. You can vote for the contestants you think should move on to Round 3, but you must vote for a minimum of three contestants.

Contestants:


  1. Contestant must live in the Yuma area at least 6 months out of the year, and be available for the elimination rounds on Wed., September 9th and 16th, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Historic Yuma Theatre. Contestants must also be available for the Finals on September 30th, 2009.
  2. Yuma Star is open to amateurs only. For the purpose of this contest, an amateur is somebody without a major-label recording contract who makes less than half their annual income by performing.
  3. Last year's event winner and associates of Freedom Communications of Southwestern Arizona, Inc. are ineligible to enter.
  4. Contestants should sing a new song for each performance. Contestants must be able to provide a sound clip, for audition purposes, to YumaSun.com. CD format or email is preferred in a .wav or .mp3 format; files must be 5MB or less. Cassette tape is allowed for audition purposes only.
  5. Audition song does not have to be song performed at preliminaries, but is recommended. There are NO CHANGES allowed in the song selection to be performed at any of the live shows, after 5p.m. on the Friday before a performance!
  6. Contestants must provide their own accompaniment music on CD, in .wav or .mp3 format (max size is 5MB) for the live performance, with their completed packet. If Contestants wish to provide their own live accompaniment on stage, it must be noted on the application and confirmed by 5p.m. on the Friday before the performance. Copies will not be available for return until the entire contest is completed. Cassette tapes are not allowed for performance music.
  7. Contestants must provide a recent photo. Digital format as a jpeg is preferred. No faxes, Polaroids, or clippings from newspaper, magazine or high school yearbooks will be accepted. Photos can be taken at the Yuma Sun's office per request. Contact Adrianne Wagner, Marketing Dept. at (928) 539-6805.
  8. Only the best 40 contestants with completed packages will be accepted for the competition, as determined by a committee of Yuma Sun associates. A completed package will include an audition sound clip, background music for performance purposes, digital photo file and completed entry form. If a contestant advances past the elimination round, contestant bios will be published online for voting. Preferred file type for music is CD, .wav or .mp3; files must be 5MB or less. No cassettes will be accepted for background music.
  9. After each judged elimination round, semi-finalists will advance to online voting at www.YumaSun.com for six days to determine finalists.
  10. The top 10-12 finalists will be determined by online voting results and will be notified by telephone on Thursday September 24th, 2009. Wild card finalists may be added.
  11. Contestants must complete the entry form in English but may perform in any language. All types of singing/rapping style are allowed, but profanity is not permitted. Contestants who use profane words will be disqualified.
  12. Costumes and dancing must be appropriate for a family show. Audience members will be all ages, including children. Please notify the committee of abrupt changes in act prior to competition. No surprises.
  13. We reserve the right to stop a performance at any time.
  14. Finalists will perform live September 30th before a live audience. The Top 3 Winners are to be determined by 40% Live Popular Vote and 60% Judges Vote. Decision is final.
  15. Applications may be emailed to Adrianne Wagner, Marketing@yumasun.com, or hand delivered to the Yuma Sun/YumaSun.com offices at 2055 S. Arizona Ave. Yuma, AZ 85364, by 5pm on August 21st , 2009. Applications submitted after 5pm will not be accepted.
  16. YumaSun.com reserves the right to reject any submission and to eliminate any contestant during the competition.
